Welcome to the Upper School

Life at the Upper School

At our school, students from a vast range of different cultures, mostly aged between 15 and 18, start their day at 8.50 am and finish at 3.50 pm. There’s as much happening inside the classrooms as there is outside, with a plethora of sports, music, and other activities to choose from. These activities happen almost every day and vary from season to season or year to year, so you can always try something new.

Inside the classroom, you can normally choose from two electives each year aside from a set of standard classes, and you can ultimately graduate from ZIS with a General Diploma, International Baccalaureate Diploma or with Advanced Placement courses. On the  Learning tab you can find out more about what happens inside a ZIS classroom!

Every year, different service clubs and groups do their best to make a difference within the community and around the world by raising awareness for an issue they feel passionate about. See Activities to read more about the service that ZIS provides to the local and global community.

At the end of each year, everyone gets to let off steam on a Classroom Without Walls trip, which might involve working with Habitat for Humanity to finish a family’s house in Portugal, kayaking down the Soča river in Slovenia, or taking cooking classes in London. One thing is a guarantee: these trips are always incredible and are one of the most important learning experiences at ZIS. To see where everyone headed last year, see Field Trips.

We have a ton of sports teams and clubs – too many to mention here! If you’re interested in soccer, rugby, swimming, volleyball, tennis, climbing, softball (you get the picture), then we’ve certainly got something for you. Not to mention, we also have our own, huge gym hall, full size grass field, tennis court, and workout gym. There’s a full list of all the sports on the Activities page.

Let’s not forget the Arts – the school stages two productions every year, for which students can be involved as cast, crew, or in the pit orchestra. We also have an active Jazz Band, String Ensemble, Wind Band, choir, and Acapella singing group. Our Music Academy is the perfect place for students to develop and perfect their musical talents.

Learning at ZIS

At ZIS we recognize the unique and diverse nature of our students. That’s why accommodating the individual learning needs of each and every student remains our highest priority.

Student Life

Co-curricular activities challenge our students’ personal, social and physical development and encourage a greater passion for learning. Opportunities range from the arts to sports to outreach and service work and beyond.

ZIS has four unique campuses offering a personal experience to each of our students. Whether it is an old villa or one of our modern buildings, ZIS offers an age-appropriate environment for your child’s learning.

The ZIS community extends beyond our students and includes ZIS families, alumni, faculty and staff, corporate partners, neighbors and friends.

Once a member of our community, always a part of our family around the world! Our alumni include former students, former parents and former faculty and staff. At ZIS we welcome our alumni’s engagement and strive to help you stay connected with your ZIS.
