Welcome to the Middle School Kilchberg

We would like for you to get a feeling for what it is like to study here. Watch the videos and the pictures and read what Annabel, a current student has to say.

A day at the Middle School starts at 8:45am and ends at 3:45am, other than on Wednesday when lessons start at 9.55am. The school is reachable by car, bike, or buses 161, 162 and 165. The stops for the buses are either Kilchberg Kirche or Rüschlikon (Säumerstrasse). During this time there will likely be 5 classes, one break, and lunch. The exceptions are Wednesdays and Assembly days. The classes you will have every day are Social Studies, Math, English, EAL, Science, PE, French, Spanish, Drama, Art, Digital Art, Movie-Making, Choir and Orchestra. The last seven of the classes listed here are optional (2 whole year classes or four quarter-length classes). This year I will be doing Drama, Movie-Making and French. Each class is an hour long and happens three times a week. Between the second and third classes there is a fifteen minute break, and after the third class there is a 45 minute lunch.

Life at the Middle School

After school there are a variety of clubs and activities you can choose from, ranging from math club to mountain biking. Last year I did Soccer in the fall and Track and Field in the spring. This year I think I will be doing Soccer in the fall, Basketball in the winter, and Track and Field in the spring. To keep the teams fair and at a good speed, there is an A team and a B team and you must try out. If you do not make a team you can always try a club that doesn’t require try-outs. But if you do make a team, it is a lot of fun because there are competitions almost every weekend. These competitions can be at ZIS, but more than half of the time they are in neighboring countries or cantons. I think this is the best part about the school. Participating in school activities can be like a vacation.

During the school year each grade takes a field trip in the woods for a week at the start of the year, and a field trip for a week to another country at the end of the year. Last year I went to Leysin at the start of the year and Spain at the end. I enjoyed both, but I liked Spain better. It was really cool because we got to see the things we had been learning about. Other than the week long field trips there are a couple field trips done in Zurich. This is nice because you get to learn the history and culture of the place you’re living in. It also helps you learn your way around the city.
