Student Mentoring Program

The Student Mentoring Program is a special volunteer program that provides individual support for students who might benefit from one-to-one time with a caring volunteer.

Volunteers, in partnership with teachers, help individual students of all ages in areas of special interest or need.

Children can join the program through a referral from their teacher or the Learning Support team, or through a request from the parent or the child himself.

What does Student Mentoring do?
It provides social/emotional support and is primarily a buddy system. It provides translation in the student’s mother tongue for new students to help them understand the classroom routine and to introduce the Units of Inquiry. A mentor might provide some minor academic support in the areas of handwriting, reading, math, project research, or extension work that has been provided by the classroom teacher.

What does it not do?
It does not replace Learning Support or in-class tutoring.

Student Referral
The teacher completes the online referral form which is submitted to the Volunteer Coordinator, giving specific details of the student’s needs. A Parent Permission Form must be signed by the parent and returned to the Student Mentoring Coordinator before a volunteer will be placed.

Student Life

Co-curricular activities challenge our students’ personal, social and physical development and encourage a greater passion for learning. Opportunities range from the arts to sports to outreach and service work and beyond.

ZIS has four unique campuses offering a personal experience to each of our students. Whether it is an old villa or one of our modern buildings, ZIS offers an age-appropriate environment for your child’s learning.

The ZIS community extends beyond our students and includes ZIS families, alumni, faculty and staff, corporate partners, neighbors and friends.

Once a member of our community, always a part of our family around the world! Our alumni include former students, former parents and former faculty and staff. At ZIS we welcome our alumni’s engagement and strive to help you stay connected with your ZIS.
