Upper School Curriculum
We offer a transformative education designed around you. Our inquiry-led approach to learning isn’t just transferable to your next school—it’s an approach that inspires a lifetime of learning.
Program Overview
Students in Grades 9 to 12 complete a rigorous and balanced program across the following subjects:
- English
- Social Studies
- World Languages
- Mathematics
- Science
- Creative Arts (Visual Arts, Music and Theater)
- Physical and Health Education
Grades 9 and 10
Our courses are created by Upper School teachers to ensure that you will be well prepared to select Advanced Placement (AP) and/or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses in Grades 11 and 12.
Regardless of the cumulative number of credits earned, Grade 9 and 10 students are required to enroll in eight courses.
Academic Pathways Grades 11 and 12
In Grades 11 and 12 there are two pathways toward graduation: the ZIS and IB Diploma pathway, and the ZIS Diploma with AP and ZIS courses combination. Both of these options allow you to pursue your interests and challenge yourself while preparing you for success in post-secondary education.
The ZIS and IB Diploma Pathway
Students earn a ZIS Diploma by enrolling in seven classes and working toward the IB Diploma.
The ZIS Diploma with ZIS and Advanced Placement Courses
Students earn a ZIS Diploma by enrolling in a combination of AP courses and ZIS courses created by our faculty. In some instances it is possible for students to enroll in individual two-year IB courses as well.
Co-Curricular Program
ZIS offers a broad range of co-curricular activities, from arts to sports, from debating to service learning, to complement your academic development.
Exploring is a vital part of growing and we will encourage you to try new things—and with so many options, it's a great opportunity to improve your skills, make new friends and find new interests!
