Lower School (ages 3-11)

The Lower School at Zurich International School is a global community where more than 500 students from over 50 nations, speaking 40 different languages, feel at home.

The academic curriculum is developed by our teachers and aligned with international benchmarks. Our goal is to meet each student where they are, to ensure that all are challenged and supported to achieve more than they thought possible! Children’s learning needs are met by providing a wide range of academic and co-curricular skills and competencies.

In our Lower School we believe in learning in an authentic context. This is supported by children solving real-life problems as a daily part of the curriculum. In our purpose-built buildings you will find "inside" spaces for Makerspace and Tinkering as well as spaces that support the learning of German and Music, and gyms for Physical Education.

Outside we have access to the forest, the sports field and a variety of play spaces. We also offer Before and After School Care if you need to extend the school day.

For learners with additional needs we have teachers specializing in Speech, Occupational Therapy, Counseling, and English as an Additional Language, as well as other learning needs.

ZIS is a close learning community where parents are seen as partners. As education changes we take parents on the journey with their child. Fortnightly Parent Cafes ensure that our parent community is learning together with our children and teachers. Parents experience their child’s learning journey as they are invited to come to school every six to eight weeks to share in their child’s accomplishments.
