EAL combined with EAL plus classes (Grades 6 and 7)

Students assessed at A2–B1 will take EAL 6 or 7. They will also take an EAL ‘plus’ class. Although scheduled separately, these two classes will run as one, giving six sessions of English/EAL in the week. These courses will take the place of the English mainstream course.

At the heart of these courses is the language syllabus, which focuses on developing the four skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. These courses are communicative and content-based, designed to connect with and/or support mainstream social studies and science.

The class covers similar curricular standards as mainstream English with two primary differences: EAL 6 and 7 consists of significantly smaller class sizes, and there is a specific focus on targeting the learning needs of the students as English Language Learners. As these students take two English courses, they lose the choice of one elective course per semester.
