AP Physics 1: Algebra-Based


Grades: 10, 11 or 12

Subject Area/Course Credit: Science, 1 credit


Grade 10:  A- or above in Coordinated Science I and a B or above in Math 1A or an A- or above in Math 1B; OR a science teacher recommendation

Grade 11 or 12: B or above in Coordinated Science II and a B or above in Math 2A or A- or above  in Math 2B, or science teacher recommendation

AP Physics 1: Algebra-Based is equivalent to a first-semester university course in algebra-based physics in the United States and prepares students to take the AP exam in May. The course is designed to be taught over a full academic year to enable AP students to develop an understanding of the content and to focus on applying their knowledge through inquiry labs. The course covers Newtonian mechanics (including Rotational dynamics); Kinematics (or equations of motion), Dynamics (or Newton’s Laws), Circular motion, Linear Momentum and Impulse, Work, Energy, and Power and Fluid Dynamics.
